Tom Shimizu appointed professor at VU University Amsterdam

As of September 1st, 2015 AMOLF group leader Tom Shimizu has been appointed professor of ‘Experimental Physics of Behavior’ at the VU University Amsterdam.

Shimizu’s research focuses on the physical bases of biological behavior across scales: from the movement of single molecules, through signal processing in cells and the nervous system, up to behavior on the organism scale.

At AMOLF, Shimizu leads the Systems Biology research group. He will be in good company at the VU University Amsterdam, as Shimizu joins fellow AMOLF Systems Biophysics group leaders Gijsje Koenderink and Pieter Rein ten Wolde, who were appointed earlier as VU professors.
