AMOLF group leader Wim Noorduin is one of the 86 researchers who received a NWO Vidi grant that is worth 800.000 euros. This grant allows Noorduin to further expand his research on versatile growth for functional materials.

Shaping up materials
Building functional materials from the bottom up requires control over both shape and chemical composition. To disentangle these requirements, researchers will develop new principles. First, salts will be grown in programmable shapes. Second, these salts will be converted to compositions of choice while preserving the original shape.

NWO talent scheme
Vidi is aimed at experienced researchers who have carried out successful research for a number of years after obtaining their PhDs. Together with Veni and Vici, Vidi is part of the NWO Talent Scheme. Researchers in the NWO Talent Scheme are free to submit their own subject for funding. NWO thus encourages curiosity-driven and innovative research. NWO selects researchers based on the quality of the researcher, the innovative character of the research, the expected scientific impact of the research proposal and the possibilities for knowledge use.
