What a wonderful Wetenschapsdag we have had on October 4th! The visitors were enthusiastic and eager to take part in lab tours, workshops, and other activities. Many were returning guests, while lots of new faces discovered the Amsterdam Science Park campus for the first time. As the cherry on top, the sun came out unexpectedly.

AMOLF counted a total number of 826 visitors. All lab tours and children’s workshops were fully booked. The hologram setup – offering a new perspective on one’s own image – was once again a big hit!

Some of the other highlights included:
– A lecture by Marco van der Laan on ‘Energy from the sun in the Netherlands’
– A new demonstration on the magic of colors – a hands-on activity where visitors could separate the colors of the light spectrum
– A fascinating tour of the microscopy lab used by Kasper Spoelstra for his research on miniature intestines

The Wetenschapsdag is an annual event organized by 5 research institutes at Amsterdam Science Park: University of Amsterdam, CWI, Nikhef, ARCNL and AMOLF. It is part of the national Weekend of Science (Weekend van de Wetenschap).

The next Wetenschapsdag will be on October 3rd, 2026. More information can be found on the website a few weeks before the event.
