This PhD position will be 1 of 6 in the Joint Solar Program 3 that is intended to conduct fundamental and applied research needed for Si-perovskite tandem solar cells. This particular position will focus on designing and implementing advanced contacts for both the perovskite and Si solar cells. This will likely include monocrystalline metal nanowire transparent electrodes, reflective back contacts and carrier selective layers. The project will involve both theoretical and experimental work, including full device optical/electrical simulations, nanostructure synthesis/fabrication and device integration. There will be close collaborations with other groups at AMOLF, Eindhoven and Delft working on other aspects of the tandem solar cells.

About the group

The Nanoscale Solar Cells group synthesizes advanced metal and semiconducting nanostructures, characterizes their material properties and integrates them into novel device structures with the aim of improving our fundamental understanding of light absorption, charge separation, recombination and transport at the nanometer scale.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a M.Sc. degree in chemistry, physics, materials science or engineering and strong mathematical training. The ideal candidate would have research experience in (or desire and ability to learn) numerical modeling and nanofabrication/nanocharacterization.

Terms of employment

The position is intended as full-time (40 hours / week, 12 months / year) appointment in the service of the Netherlands Foundation of Scientific Research Institutes (NWO-I) for the duration of four years. After successful completion of the PhD research a PhD degree will be granted at University of Amsterdam. Several courses are offered, specially developed for PhD-students. AMOLF assists any new PhD-student with housing and visa applications and compensates their transport costs and furnishing expenses.
